The reason I asked, is that a convoy designated DN.21 from Durban to Cape Town was attacked by U-160 and in the chaos the American Harvey W. Scott turned on her upper deck lights in accordance to America procedure. I wondered if anybody had heard of such an order.

I agree that it is ridiculous as escorts would be blinded, other targets silhouetted etc.
