<HTML>Dear sub-addicts,
we know that the Allied anti-submarine planes used different radar wavelengths during the war. At the early stages of aerial-to-surface tracking they used longer ones, later on shorter and shorter ones. The Metox could detect the longer ones but was of no use for the shorter ones. This let the U-boat commanders to distrust the Metox apparatus. It is technically correct that it was also emitting but at the time that emission was not practically detectable. Basically, later in the war, short wave radar usually tracked the U-boats. When Germans realised this, they started to use also the Naxos apparatus, but it was too late and too few units were available.
Greetings
