<HTML>Dear S.C.,
could you please give an approximate figure of the strength of a spurious signal coming from a receiver and the related wavelengths? I believe that in a dedicated research laboratory you can detect these emissions, but from a Coastal Command plane... hmmm...I know radio sets performances are quite affected by aircraft engine \"radio\" noise...while the radar behaves like a good radio-beacon for at least twice its detective range.
Pretending \"Metox\" was detectable, maybe the British Intelligence tried to catch two birds with one stone: first, conceal as long as possible the Enigna system seizure, second, make the U-boat Commanders distrust their own radio equipment. Moreover, if \"Metox\" was really detectable, what about the \"Naxos\"?
Very good topic for the \"Technology and Operations\" Forum!
Greetings and thanks
