Re: Dubbed in English with English subtitles?

<HTML>Well, Kurt, as you say, not hearing the original language means you lose nuance, which you don't lose so much if you listen in the German (in the case of Das Boot) but with the subtitles on. Some people though find reading them while they're watching a distraction from the action and would prefer a dub every time.
Personally, I find I look back at a lot of foreign language films and don't even remember that they were subtitled, or that the actors were speaking anything but my native English, whereas a bad dub is never forgotten. I watched Stalingrad on DVD over the weekend, which only had a very poor English dub, no option to hear the original German, and was a huge disappointment. It's a matter of preference, I suppose, and I do appreciate having the choice.
Plus for those with hearing disabilities subtitling is of course much more use than a dub.
