<HTML>Obviously, the most rewarding 'das Boot-experience' is watching and hearing it in German. The banter and typical German dialects (Johanns Bavarian accent is class) come across best in German.
Not everyone is so lucky as to have had 10 years of German in school (we Dutch are weird that way ) and to have lived there (as I do now) however.
I personally prefer the German version, but will encourage anyone who doesn't speak German and isn't used to subtitles (it can be a rather tiring thing, I imagine) to watch it in the dubbed version.
Any viewing of Das Boot is better than no viewing of Das Boot </HTML>
