I'm afraid I cannot add any information to your query. Mother passed away in January 1998 and father is very sick with Alzheimer, hardly recognizing his kids let alone recall any history of his service. But taking the timeframe you described at least my mother could have indeed cared for the wounded, but father was at that time transferred to minesweeper at the Krim and uncle Erich was on a mission in the Atlantic at that time.
