I found the movie to be "entertaining." Many of the scenes were filmed onboard the Foxtrot class boat at Long Beach and also on board Pompanito SS-383 tied up in San Francisco. Check the credits at the end. I can't speak for the Russian Navy but I do know that the US Navy Submarine service has a number of well documented examples of major "disagreements" between the CO and his Exec that played out in relief of the Exec, the CO, and in one case wholesale replacement of the entire crew. I also thought the special effects were quite good.

As reference points my pick for all time best submarine movie is Das Boot, the directors cut in German and subtitled, and the worst is Crimson Tide with K-19 being somewhere in the middle. My two cents.
