<HTML>Hello there,
I saw K-19 and found it wasn't quite as 'pathetic' as some might think, but that's just my opinion. One of the subs they used for filming is now moored in Providence RI and I've been aboard her. With that in mind, I have a truly deep respect for Russian submariners. Nothing but hard cold steel inside. Business and nothing but business. It was interesting to see just where some of the scenes were filmed and a special affect or two left behind.
What I found fascinating was just how deep the pressure hull is inside the external hull and how much space there is inbetween. One can see the mechanisms for elevators, etc.
It's hard to imagine how a man as large as K-19's captain that served under Harrison Ford, could move around the boat easily. Upon climbing the ladder to the attack scope, this became even more evident. I'm not a large man and I had a tight fit.
I highly recommend seeing her for yourselves if possible.
Sincerely,
Les</HTML>
