This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

<HTML>What did he do in order to stay out from under foot? Very good question! One large body in the way would be a potential disaster in the tight choreography (well put, says this former assistant-to-director of a ballet company!) of a U-Boot. If the book is a reliable guide, he did a lot of sitting at the O-Messe table, presumably writing, and staring into space, as that gang didn't seem to be very chatty--taking their cue from their laconic Kaleun, no doubt. He also went up onto the tower whenever possible, including standing some watches for people who had to miss due to illness . . . and he lay in his bunk and eavesdropped on the crew. By all accounts, however, he spent most of his time in the Zentrale, watching the operation of the boat. Personally I would have gone bonkers, and asked to borrow the Captain's pistol to put an end to it all.
Cheerfully,
