<HTML>Hmm, on reflection I think you're right ... Especially where public figures are concerned - you only have to buttonhole your local MP / Congressman / Senator and you are theoretically only a couple of steps off any living world leader and quite a few dead ones.
I once got a lift with Winston C's grandson and had him buy me lunch. I was going out with the son of a junior N Ireland Office Minister, and his dad persuaded WC to let us hitch a ride with him back to London. We stopped off at a pub for lunch near Salisbury, and he very generously picked up the tab for us impoverished students. Did I manage to find one single thing of interest to ask or say to him? No, other than accusing his grandmother of vandalism for destroying the Sutherland portrait. Oh God, the arrogance of youth.....
