<HTML>I am suprised to see these new posters say that Capt. Duffy has a grudge against the Germans. From my reading of his web site and posts, I would say he has a great respect for the German Navy, particulary when you consider that they sunk his ship and handed him over to the Japanese. He might have cause for a grudge but I have never seen it. He has attended conventions of his captors as a guest and counts many of them as friends. Now, for the Japanese, he has no use.
As to his opinions about Hardegen, one of the stories of Hartegen is that he argued with Hitler and told him he was running the war wrong. I think we can agree that a man who would get in Hitler\'s face is a man of strong opinions and unaccustomed to keeping his opinions to himself. As to why Capt. Duffy would make a second visit, I have had friends for over 20 years that are arrogant braggarts. There is more to a man than that.
Hartegen may well be arrogant and a braggart. He may also be a decent and kind man who served bravely and honorably in a terrible war. He may even be both. </HTML>
