<HTML>Hi MPC and Fin,
Nice to see you two here again and thank you for you excellent postings! --Fin, I\'m glad to know that you\'re free from the sufferings of flu now.
I guess enough has been said re Hardegen, I just want to add a few more lines here as it was I who started this thread that has generated so much bitter arguments.
When I regard Hardegen as an inspiration, it is for his humanity showed in the incident of ¡°Mount Aetna¡± and its epilogue 39 years later. For this I still hold him in high respect. I may be too young to witness the war or to have rich life experiences, but I was really touched when Hardegen knelt down and tied that Norwegian sailor¡¯s shoelace¡ªI do think that nothing done by an U-boat commander could be more humble than that.
Even so, Hardegen is no embodiment of perfection, neither are we.
BTW, MPC, yes, I am proud of Fin, but Obtlt.z.S.? I thought I had long been promoted to Kptlt.! )
Take care,
Ying
