Dear Bruce
I do really regret that you take this attitude. All we have, and I have, that can be provided openly is paperwork from official Argentine and Brazilian sources and the interpretation of it. That is more or less all we have been able to provide. I assure you that I have no attempt to deceive. Although thinking along the lines of a possible book, I make my income from translating and that is my primary concern. A book would be two years away for reasons which I mentioned earlier, and dependent on certain facts becoming available.
What does amaze me is the amount of flak this subject generates. I wonder if people really do know and fear subconsciously what it means if it is proven that these U-boats came here. The last thing they want is the proof.
One of my favourite stories of the war which you may recall from the film "A Bridge Too Far" was of the British Intelligence Officer who was certain from his information that there were two SS Panzer Divisions resting in the woods at Arnhem. Like myself he did not have the proof, everything was circumstantial based on what he considered were reliable reports. He was dismissed as a charlatan and the operations went ahead. Whether he enjoyed any satisfaction when the "dubious" SS Panzer Divisions came out of the woods and clobbered the British Parachute Army I do not know but I would love to have been there to see the expression on their faces when the first rumbles of the "non-existent" and "unproven" SS Panzers were heard and bore down on the doubters. Whereas people see the forum as strictly factual it is more suited to the role of intelligence: the information provided may or may not be true and is sketchy and it is for any one of us to store or use it as we see fit until the certain proof eventually arrives.
I do regret that you believe I have not been able to help. I am prepared to let you know confidentially certain other things which may be of interest in this regard and which I cannot reveal openly - whether you believe me or not is up to you. If you wish me to contact you by E-mail perhaps you will signal that or come through to me directly yourself.
Best wishes
