Sniper:

The submarine MK 16 and surface-craft Mk 17 torpedoes' design was far superior
to the MK 14 and mods. It got rid of that '30s gearbox (main engine) and produced
a much better "transmission" using a "split-type" oil-bath gearcase, containing herringbone gears, which could be dropped in place easily at assembly. The use of herringbone gears eliminated all the critical thrust adjustments prevalent in the
Mk14 & mods. This also was the birth of the "bubble-meter" used to constantly monitor the venting of the hydrogen-peroxide fuel tank. This weapon was the last "mechanical" type, and it was replaced by battery and Otto-fuel propulsion systems.

Long live the MK 48 ADCAP weapon of choice of several nations!
