In the early 60's the Subbase Pearl Harbor Steam Torpedo Shop still had a handful of MK 16 Mod 7's in storage. the Mod 7 was a mechanically set MK 16. The afterbody and all internals and tailcone were identical to a MK 14 mod 3. Looked like the energy section was a converted MK 14 air flask. They hadn't been pulled out of the racks in years.

I spent a couple of months in the steam shop before going to Cusk. Worked Main engine tear-down and build-up. I hated working on the Oil-Dag engines. Also worked on a couple of MK 15 Mod 3 engines. There was a handful of Mk 15's in storage there as well. Talk about complicated with the additional side gears for 3 speeds! Yep, working on the MK 16 engine was a breeze!

MK 48, yep, that's why there are no more TM's on submarines. A Machinist mate can load and shoot-em.
