The MK 21-1 torpedo was designed and developed by HUSL/BTL/ORL (Harvard Underwater Sound Lab - Bell Telephone Lab - Ordnace Research Lab) and 312 were produced but none of them went in service. They used the MK13 (22.42" X 161")
steam (wet-heater) torpedo with passive acoustic homing.
The MK 22 torpedo was designed and developed by BTL/Westinghouse. A few were produced but none went in service. They used MK 14 -3A steam (21" X 246") torpedo, with Active acoustic homing in azimuth only.
