Patrick "Tubes Aft" Meagher:

While on duty at the torpedo shop in San Juan, P.R., we prepared MK15s for use on fleet boats leaving Portsmouth, NH and New London, CT by installing these side gears. The surface launchers' gyro setting spindle was on the bottom and the
fleet boat's on the side. We also had to replace the Tee-shaped guide stud for the
flat submarine type. There were other mods required, but I was not involved with
them at the time, which could've included a different warhead to accomodate an after torpedo room load.

OIL DAG, OIL DAG! Colloidal graphite, what a mess. It was worse than getting battery electrolyte on your dungarees; the stains never came off.

Did you ever have to use "tacky wax" on MK 14 & MK 16 exhaust valves, prior
to tubeloading?
